APEC Guidelines and best practice for the adoption of Global Data Standards (GDS)
The APEC Guidelines and Best Practices for the Adoption of Global Data Standards (GDS) (“the Guidelines”) are prepared with the objective to serve as useful reference materials to assist member economies, government agencies (including customs agencies) and traders involved in supply chains (including exporters, logistics companies and importers) in their adoption and implementation of GDS for the purpose of enhancing the overall performance of supply chains and improving risk management.
APEC Leaders and Ministers have recognised that a wider use of GDS can improve supply chain performance. In any international transaction of goods, a range of information needs to be exchanged between various parties as the goods move along global supply chains. GDS is adopted to ensure that relevant information is provided in a common format which is easily understood and sharable by all parties.
Sri Lanka apparel and textile case study
Funded by the Asian Development Bank, this report outlines a strategy for the scalable digital sharing of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) information, from upstream sources through the value chain, to meet the needs of regulators and consumers in export market destinations. This strategy is crucial for exporters in developing markets, particularly across the Asia-Pacific region, to maintain access to markets and global supply chains, including the European Union (EU) and the United States.
The strategy is designed to be user-friendly for small and medium-sized enterprises, and aimed at the maintenance of export market access and the positive development impacts of this trade. It accommodates any level of digital maturity, from a paper ESG credential photographed with a smartphone and uploaded to a website, to machine-to-machine information exchange.
